How does it feel to get killed in a video game? How does it feel to win? The feelings experienced by Gameknight999, a Minecraft user who is transported into the game by his father’s latest invention, help him realize why we shouldn’t kill others for fun.
One day, Gameknight is playing Minecraft on his father’s computer in the basement (he’s not supposed to) when he hears his father coming home from work. As he tries to escape, the digitizer suddenly zaps him and sends him into the game. Inside the game, he learns that he’s a “User-that-is-not-a-user” and that there is a prophecy stating that when a “User-that-is-not-a-user” enters Minecraft, then the mobs will destroy everything in Minecraft and eventually enter the physical world. To prevent this from happening, he and the other users will have to destroy the mobs on the current server and then gain enough XP (experience points) to move on to the next server.
Readers will enjoy the adventure as they are taken into the world of Minecraft. When Gameknight first enters the game, he faces a spider and has to dig a hidey-hole. Inside the hidey-hole, he has to mine precious items such as coal and iron. Soon, he leaves the hidey-hole and quickly gets to the village, where he saves the village from a gang of griefers. After that, he and the villagers build a fortress and defeat the mobs. Lastly, Gameknight, Crafter, and other users like Shawny battle the mobs and move onto the next server.
Readers will also enjoy the battle between the users and the mobs, along with the values that Gameknight and the other users show. Gameknight has changed from a selfish troller in his dad’s basement to a person who works together with other users to save Minecraft. Through his adventure, Gameknight shows many values such as teamwork, friendship, and bravery.
Overall, readers will find this book enjoyable, for Cheverton writes a suspenseful plot that will keep readers of all ages engaged. This book shows the importance of working together and not giving up.
